Plus, there are a lot of books that I need to read, and I think all book lovers can relate to having an endless TBR. The amount of categories I couldn’t pick just one book I needed to read was, frankly, ridiculous. I really, really, really, need to read more books.
a book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
I have one friend who I’m on a similar reading wavelength on, but both of us have books that the other hasn’t read. I actually have many, many books that she’s urged me to read and then I simply … haven’t. Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger is one. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown is another. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson … I could go on. And on. And on.
a book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t read it
I’ve been meaning to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone since I was in, like, middle school. That was like 2011 or so. I’ve just heard so many great things about Laini Taylor’s books, but I haven’t read them because I feel like I need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone first?
a book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten around to finishing
Oh, I am literally the worst when it comes to starting series and not finishing. I really, really need to finish R.F. Kuang’s The Poppy War series, because I have an ARC of The Burning God (thanks Tor!!!!!) and I need to know what happens. Other series I need to finish? Kiersten White’s And I Darken series. V.E. Schwab’s Monsters of Verity and Villains. Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Brittany Cavallaro’s Charlotte Holmes. Yeah.
a classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but have never actually read
I’ve always wanted to read Oscar Wilde’s work! I don’t know how I got through a whole English degree without reading Oscar Wilde, honestly? Also, Matthew Fairchild has inspired me; I have The Picture of Dorian Gray and my goal is to read it before Chain of Iron comes out.
a popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
I literally see Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi everywhere and it seems like everyone on Book Twitter has read it, but I just … never got around to it? I think I tried to pick it up years ago, when I was in high school, but it didn’t really interest me. Nevertheless, I still want to read it … someday.
a book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but just haven’t picked up yet
I really want to read Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House. I know it’s incredibly different from the TV show, so I want to see what the differences are and how it’s changed from the book to the TV series. Plus, I really loved the TV series.
a book you see all over social media but haven’t picked up yet
Admit it: you’re curious. I’m curious. We all knew a trashy satirical romance about Coronavirus was coming, and God knows I’ve seen this book everywhere on Twitter recently. Am I actually going to read this?? Who knows. Who. Knows.
what are some books you really need to read?
